SG connect CNY @ Mayflower Great Mall

We had a Chinese New Year dinner with quite a number of Singaporeans who are residing in California. It is pretty heartwarming to see people from your country and the best is, I can to Lao Yu Sheng!!! Shall put up the video of us doing it, so fun... :P This event was coordinated by NUSEA and Saba who did a great job in the entertainment and decorations, hopefully, they can continue to have these dinners as it is a great networking session as the "successful" Singaporeans can lend a helping hand to students like us, but hope it can be much affordable next time, having a huge hole in my pocket for now :(

Las Palmas Taco bar @ Santa Cruz

Sebastian and I went to Santa Cruz with Avishek and Xuan Thu in 2 of our cars, having a short road trip on our weekend, We went to the beach side and I was hungry as my 1st meal was at 3plus in the afternoon, we bought our a dollar McChicken, I bought a cookie and cream ice cream at a grocery near the beach because I was still hungry and ice cream seems to be a good option. Before heading back for the Chinese New Year Dinner at Great Mall (Mayflower), I used Yelp and found this pretty decent place that serves Taco. Las Palmas Taco Bar sells pretty nice cripsy chicken tacos @ $1.95 and the pan-friend burritos @ $6.95. The tacos tasted to sebastian as the cripsy popiah back in Singapore and the burritos tasted like Thosai to both of us, delicious! :) I think the reason is because we are missing Singapore food hence that explains the similarity in the taste :P

Mystery Spot @ Santa Cruz

We didn't go up however, we checked the place out and there is an entrance fee of $5 but if you have your 11B, you can enter for free :P It was said that the water is flowing upwards instead of downwards, that's explain the name of this place, "Mystery Spot". I shall drop by again in future and check this place out!

* Phone reception was very bad, almost zero

Today is another Today, but I became very emotional...

I miss Mummy so much that I cried by just listening to her voice, it is so sweet and comforting... The thought of my family by my side is so heartwarming and sour at the same time. All this while, I have been on a fast pace, dashing through each days, packing my time back to back, laughing my heart out, squeeze every bit of my energy and turn it to fun, wanting to bring the American Lynette out...I managed to, I feel that I am different in some sense compared to the boring Lynette back in Singapore. I am trying to slow down my foot steps and enjoy every second and moment, I know it may sound cheesy but the "air" that I take, is so refreshing and energetic...It just give you the power to move on and strive on...

I got a nice apartment, a satisfying job, a handsome Mustang and great friends...It is really amazing here, it is really the best time of my life, being the independent INDEPENDENT me, not sure whether it is for better or worst, but guess that is who I am, someone that is always so solo and strong-headed.

It is really an eye-opening experience in Silicon Valley, everyone is so creative and full of ideas, so passionate to bring something new to the world. Hopefully, I can be like that one day :)

Love Mummy, Daddy and Kor Kor...and BB too...and you know who you are :P

Pho Dong @ Redwood City

I went to this vietnamese restaurant twice, for the first time, I tried dried vermicelli with grilled pork and vegetable with sweet sauce, recommended by Scott, $8 plus, slightly pricey as the ambience is better but I managed to split the portion to two to save some for dinner. I tried another soup rice noodles the next time I visited, it turned out to be as delicious as the soup was tasty.

Pho Tho Chau @ Mountain View

Favourite place of Jie Wei's, I have been here twice as it closes pretty late and most of us are able to go there for supper. Nice dried vermicelli with grilled pork and vegetables with a fish sauce to mix, $7.95.

Jason's beachside grill @ Tahoe

We had our dinner at Jason's Grill, our first proper meal of the day, after a long tiring work out on the ski slope with our wet ass, we sat at the fireplace and kept ourselves warm. This place served really sinful and delicious Irish potatoes = Fries with cheese and bacon and sour cream.
We learnt a good trick to order food for a group now, the equation goes like this,

Number of dishes to order = (n-3),

*n is the number of people

Jim Denny's Hamburger @ Sacremento

Biggest Pancake ever!!! It is called the Hubcap with spokes, it has 3 Bacons + 3 Sausage + 1 egg of your choice (scrambled or sunnyside up) $12.50 :D 2 person also cannot finish this massive serving. We camped outside it and wait for it to open at 7.30 am. We woke up early at 4am and set off to Tahoe, having a pit stop at Sacremento for breakfast.

Jack's prime @ Belmont

Phoenix Burger...Yummy, the thought of it makes me want to go back to have more, very soft and the seasoning is so good, it is also spicy hot which makes it so delicious. You must definitely get the sweet potato fries to go along with your meal, an add on of $1.50 I think. The burger meal itself cost about $8-$9 so it is a pretty affordable meal to reward yourself now and then :P

Ruth's Chris Steak House @ San Francisco

The most expensive place I have ever ate so far, $35 for a three course meal, but it is after some discount, I think it was 50%. We got a good deal and 4 of us dine like some big occasion. It was a smart casual dressing and when you walk in, it seems like everyone looks rich and enjoys dining at the place.

Three course meal:
1 x Salad
1 x Main course: Signature prawn, steak

$35

R&G Lounge @ San Francisco

Famous Chinese restaurant in San Francisco which serve great salt and pepper dungeness crab. However, it is slightly pricey but still worth the try.

631 Kearny St Chinatown, San Francisco, CA 94108

Golden Gate Bakery @ San Francisco

Delicious egg tarts @ $1.25 per piece, if I did not remember wrongly. It is very soft and hot, very delicious! A definitely must-buy food and you can just buy more and keep it to microwave the next, it will be still as good.

Bouchon Bakery @ Yountville

This bakery was a couple of mins walk from bistro jeanty. It was very famous as there was a long queue and it was said that the brioche and macaroons are the "must-haves" but I thought it was pretty average. However, it was a nice place to visit still.

Bistro Jeanty @ Yountville

With a full stomach, we had to still try this restaurant's Crème de Tomate en Croute (Tomato Soup in puff pastry) $10.50. It was heavenly, hot and delicious, best tomato soup I have ever tasted. Four of us shared it and it was indeed not sufficient even though we are full :P We tried their special menu- Pork feet, it was rather nice.

Black Bear Diner @ Napa Valley

My best breakfast place so far, the omelette is amazing, very rich and with alot of bacons, ham and cheese. I would definitely want to learn how to make this sinful breakfast. It was very worthy for the price we paid, it is about $8 for a large portion. The first AMERICANIZED place I been...the service was good and the place is very cosy.

Silverado Resort and Spa@ Napa Valley

Beautiful place to stay, it was a chosen accomodation paid by my company, Qik, where each staff gets a room to themselves :) It was so nice to visit napa valley in the winter as it was hot and sunny in the afternoon and I managed to go for a swim and soak in the jacuzzi.

Japanese Ramen @ Castro St

We rushed to this place for the last order and managed to catch them on time. It was really nice for a cold night and their kimchi is really good with the ramen. The price was pretty affordable @ $9 for each bowl, because I get to have the free flow of kimchi. Order 1 bowl and share between 2 person, it will be totally worth it :)
